Lupus Advocacy Day

Today is:
The Lupus Foundation of America's
11th Annual Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill

There has not been a new drug created for Lupus
in 50 years!!!

They're trying to change that. Thru funding and research we can help the 2 million people that have been diagnosed with this awful disease 90% of which are women.

My dear friend Joann is one of those women.
My Father-in-Law is one of the other 10%.

What is Lupus?

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and brain. Normally the body's immune system makes proteins called antibodies, to protect the body against viruses, bacteria, and other foreign materials. These foreign materials are called antigens.

In an autoimmune disorder like lupus, the immune system cannot tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissues. The immune system then makes antibodies directed against itself. These antibodies cause inflammation, pain and damage in various parts of the body.
